It is said, "that in the Ordeal, the Order of the Arrow accepts the new member. In the Brotherhood, the individual accepts the lodge and the ideals of the Order." As an Ordeal member of the lodge, service to the troop is of utmost importance.Brotherhood membership in the lodge can be obtained after completing 10 months as an ordeal member, and gaining an understanding of the lodge program. Advancement to the Brotherhood membership is a personal decision, and we recommend that you look over the information on the website and then refer to your OA member handbook for even greater detailed information.
The Requirements for Brotherhood membership: Been an Ordeal member for at least 10 months. Be Active member of your Scouting Unit. Be Active paid member of Marnoc Lodge. Write a letter of you values of service to the secretary. The Brotherhood fee is $35.00 for 2018.
Where/ When? Brotherhood Ceremonies will be held every Tuesday evening at Camp Manatoc during the Summer Camp Season. A Brotherhood meeting will take place every Tuesday afternoons at 1:45 pm at the Buena Vista Shelter.This meeting is required for everyone planning to go through the Brotherhood Ceremony later that night.The meeting will also be over before the camp wide game starts. To gain a better understanding of the Ordeal review these questions: How did I provide service to my camp? What did I do well, not so well? What did I learn about myself? What did I learn about others? What positive personal experience did I have on my Ordeal? What can I do to make sure others have similar positive experiences? What did I learn from the ceremonies? How can I use what I learned to benefit my unit? Serve Your Unit. Remain active with your unit, and use what you have learned and practiced to better serve the unit. Serve or plan to serve the lodge. Become an active member, by paying your dues, attending service days, Ordeals, Fellowships, and Conclave.
The Letter: When you have reviewed the above items, think about what you have learned, done, and planned to do. Then you should write your letter to the Lodge Secretary. If you would like to attain your Brotherhood Membership you must write a letter to the Lodge Secretary while including the following: Explain what you think the Obligation means. Describe how you have been fulfilling this obligation in your troop or team and in your daily life, and how you have used what your understanding of the ordeal to aid in this service. Describe your specific plans for giving service in the lodge program.
